960 – Abu Abdillah said in the narration of Abdillah: from Abu Hurairah from the Prophet ﷺ: “Fasting is a shield, so if he is fasting then he should not behave obscenely or ignorantly, and if a person insults him, he should said: Indeed I am fasting. He leaves his food and drink for My sake.
“961 – And he said in the narration of Hanbal: It is necessary for the one fasting to protect his fast from his tongue, not to argue, and to protect his fast, they used to sit in the masājid when fasting and say: We are preserving our fast. And backbiting is disliked for the one fasting, so he should not backbite anyone, nor do any deed which harms his fast, and backbiting does not break the fast.
