A man came to Ibn Mas’ūd and said: Which is the best action? He said: Knowledge. Then he (the man) asked (again): Which is the best action? He said: Knowledge. He said: I am only asking about the best action and you’re saying knowledge.
So he (Ibn Mas’ūd) said: Woe to you, indeed with knowledge about Allah a little action will benefit you as well as a lot, and with ignorance about Allah neither a little nor a lot of action will benefit you.
