al Bayhaqī reported from Asmā’ bint Yazīd al Ansāriyyah, that she came to the Prophet ﷺ whilst he was amongst his companions, and said,
“May my father and mother be ransomed for you – I am a delegate from the women to you, and know – may I ransomed for you – that there is no woman in the east or the west, whether she has heard of this coming out of mine or not, except that she feels the same way as I do.
“Verily Allah has sent you with the truth to men and women, and we have believed in you, and in your God Who sent you.
And verily we community of women are restricted and confined, we stay at home in your houses, we are where you fulfill your desires, and the bearers of your children.
Whilst you community of men have been preferred over us with Jumu‘ah and prayers in congregation, visiting the sick, attending funerals, pilgrimage after pilgrimage, and even better than that, fighting in the path of Allah.
And verily any man from amongst you, when he goes out for Hajj or Umrah or to guard against the enemy, we look after your wealth for you, weave your clothes for you, and bring up your children for you.
So do we not share in the reward with you O Messenger of Allah?”
So the Prophet ﷺ turned his whole face to his companions, then said, «Have you ever heard the saying of any woman more beautiful in asking about her case regarding her religion than this one?»
They responded, “O Messenger of Allah, we did not deem that a woman would think of this.”
So the Prophet ﷺ turned to her, and then said to her, «Go back, O woman, and let those behind you of the women know, that any of you being good as a wife to her husband, and her seeking to please him, and her following his approval, is equal to all of that.»
So the woman turned away rejoicing by saying tahlīl and takbīr.
